hardest thing to learn during recovery is….. some of your misery is your own fault. you have to actively choose to stop wallowing in your own pain & start to recover. that means stop being self deprecating, start taking care of yourself, start eating healthy, start taking your hygiene seriously, even if it’s hard. & it is hard! but you must.

I don’t agree with any of this. “some of your misery is your own fault” wow way to blame the victim and make them feel worse about themselves. This post says “you have to choose to recover” as if you can choose to to not have depression or can just snap out of it. I hate posts like these because they just aren’t true and it just makes depressed people feel worse.

i understand that & used to have this mindset as well, but i am someone who suffers with depression & this is something i had to learn the hard way. i am not victim blaming! this is just how it is. you have to actively CHOOSE to start working towards feeling better, which means taking care of yourself, getting therapy, doing laundry, & starting to be able to function as a human. wallowing in your own misery all day will not help you get better. i am saying this as someone who has done that before.
